Code of Conduct

Building a safe, inclusive, and respectful hackathon environment

CAPEC Hackathon 2026 is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or computing experience. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.

Our Commitment

We are committed to creating a welcoming environment where all participants can learn, collaborate, and innovate together. Every participant deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.

  • We prioritize marginalized people's safety over privileged people's comfort
  • We promote constructive collaboration and learning

Expected Behavior

All participants are expected to:

  • Be respectful of different viewpoints and experiences
  • Gracefully accept constructive criticism
  • Focus on what is best for the community and event
  • Show empathy towards other participants
  • Use welcoming and inclusive language
  • Respect personal boundaries and privacy
  • Ask for consent before taking photos or sharing content
  • Follow all event rules and venue guidelines

Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and will not be tolerated:

  • Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or technology choices
  • Unwelcome sexual attention or advances
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Photography or recording without consent
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Trolling, insulting/derogatory comments, and personal attacks
  • Public or private harassment
  • Publishing others' private information without permission
  • Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviors

Enforcement

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:

  • Warning the offender
  • Expulsion from the event without refund
  • Banning from future CAPEC events
  • Reporting to law enforcement if necessary

Reporting

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the event staff immediately. Event staff will be wearing distinctive badges and can be identified at the registration desk.

All reports will be handled with discretion. Event staff will help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event.

Intellectual Property & Ethics

  • Respect intellectual property rights of others
  • Do not plagiarize or copy code without attribution
  • Properly license and credit open-source components
  • Do not create projects that promote harm or illegal activities

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all Hackathon Nova 2026 spaces, including the physical venue, online platforms, social media, and any related events. It also applies to unacceptable behavior occurring outside the scope of event activities when such behavior has the potential to adversely affect the safety and well-being of participants.

Agreement

By participating in CAPEC Hackathon 2026, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. We expect all participants to help create a safe and positive experience for everyone.
